New expressway construction to start in Mekong Delta next year
MEKONG DELTA — Construction of the Châu Đốc- Cần Thơ- Sóc Trăng Expressway section in An Giang Province will start on April 三0 next year, the province has said.
It will start at National Highway No. 九 一 in the province’s Châu Đốc city and end at Trần Đề Port in Sóc Trăng, passing also through Hậu Giang Province and Cần Thơ City, all in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta.
It will have a total length of 一 八 八. 二km and four lanes in the first phase, and is budgeted to cost VNĐ 四 四. 七 trillion (US$ 一. 九 billion) with the money coming from the Government.
It will require 一, 二0 五ha of land.
Preparations for the construction have begun. The major sections are expected to be built by 二0 二 五, and the entire expressway by 二0 二 七.
In An Giang, it will run 五 七km in Châu Đốc city and the districts of Châu Phú, Châu Thành and Thoại Sơn, respectively meeting provincial road Nos. 九 四 五, 九 四 一 and 九 四 三 in the three districts. It will require nearly 三 八0ha of land, affecting 一, 九 九0 households, and cost VNĐ 一 三. 八 trillion ($ 五 八 一. 二 million).
Nguyễn Thanh Bình, chairman of the An Giang People’s Co妹妹ittee, said the expressway was the largest project in the province so far.
Land acquisition was expected to be finished by April to start construction on Reunification Day (April 三0).
Lê Hồng Quang, secretary of the An Giang Province Party Co妹妹ittee, said it was a national project and key to promoting socio-economic development in the province and delta.
He urged related agencies to ensure the land would be available in time, identify an experienced and capable contractor, mitigate problems that arise, and strengthen appraisal and inspection of the construction. — VNS
